Revisiting the Viking Nursery

I just love this nursery theme and wanted to revisit it today!  The twins' nursery theme will be posted soon!

Every one of my babies has a theme.  Little Prez had a farm theme, Little Princess had a mermaid theme and Little Viking has a corresponding theme!

His nursery theme is . . . Vikings!  I wanted something unique, masculine, and adorable.  I really like the adventure themed nurseries I've seen on Pinterest, but it seems like the adventure theme is just a bit too common at this point for me.  So, I decided to take a Norse spin on the adventure theme and use a Viking Nursery Theme.

Viking Ship Bookends

I think this was the first Pinterest picture that came up with my first search, and even though I probably will never buy these awesome bookends, I think they are perfect for a shelf or top of a dresser in a Viking themed nursery.

Viking Ship Sheets

Hanna Andersson Viking Themed Nursery Sheets

There is a crib sheet set available in the boat fabric that I'm very tempted to buy even though it's a bit more than I would usually spend on crib sheets.  (Okay, maybe I've never even bought a crib sheet that wasn't at a garage sale, so maybe that shouldn't count.)

Waves Area Rug

And I just adore this waves rug!  It comes in a variety of sizes both rectangular and round, but I think the round version just works with the round waves for a Viking themed nursery.

Viking-Inspired Sleigh Crib

This sleigh crib from Pottery Barn just says Vikings to me, but unfortunately it's not longer available.  I did find a similar one from Bratt Decor on Amazon.  You can check it out here.

Viking Ship Mobile

There are several versions of this Viking ship mobile available from a variety of websites, but this is one is my favorite, by far, because of the navy striped sails.

Be Brave Viking Wall Print

And last, but not least, this Be Brave print is super cute and is the perfect color scheme as well.  Unfortunately, it is no longer being sold at the Etsy shop where it originated, so I may try to make one on my own!

Viking Pillow

And I almost forgot this adorable pillow from Hanna Andersson.  The red doesn't quite fit with my blue and grey them, but I really like this little guy!

Viking Swaddle

I just found this, oh so sweet, viking swaddle!  We use swaddles for our babies ALL THE TIME.  It's a necessity.  :-)

Old Viking Boat Wall Art

I'm in love with this Viking wall art.  It's just so majestic and beautiful.  I'd love to see it somewhere in a Viking themed nursery!

Personalized Viking Ship Wall Decal

This adorable personalized Viking Ship wall decal might be another necessity in a Viking themed nursery!

I'm on the lookout for more inspirations and products for my Viking themed nursery!  Can't wait for my little Viking to arrive in a few days!

My Little Viking...the first six months

Dear Little Viking,

Mommy has pretty much failed as a mommy blogger for the past few years, so it's not surprising that I haven't posted much about you, but that doesn't mean I don't love you.  It just means that I'm being present in the lives of four wonderful children (or at least that's what I tell myself).

You were born in July on your Aunt Kelly's birthday.  It was a Saturday morning, and our doctor was supposed to go on vacation, but he put off leaving for a few hours to come in and deliver you.

You weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces.  The smallest of our babies.  Your sister was almost a full two pounds heavier than you, and all I could think was that you were so small and perfectly proportioned, but that I couldn't remember what to do with little, tiny babies.

After waiting in recovery for what seemed like forever, we were taken to our room.  Your Daddy and I marveled at how precious you were (and still are).  Later, Grandma and Grandpa brought your brother and sisters up to see you.  They were all so excited!

Later your Grandad and Mimi came to visit and then a few weeks after that, your Aunt Kiley came all the way from Las Vegas to meet you!

Once we got home, Mommy was blessed to get to teach online and stay home with you for your first six months.  Each day, week, and month you've grown and grown and grown.

You went from being our smallest baby with super skinny legs, to our only baby with super chunky thighs.

You started out as the fussiest baby, but you've grown into a very happy little boy.

You are our only baby with blue eyes instead of brown.  At first, I thought your eyes were going to be dark, but it became apparent very quickly that you have blue eyes like Mommy.  Daddy says that they look like a calm ocean on a cloudy day.  He's right.

You love to eat, and started eating baby food on Christmas.  You love bananas, oatmeal, sweet potatoes...well almost everything you've tried.

You learned to smile around seven weeks, and you've been smiling ever since.  Except when you're hungry, or tired, or fussy.

You started out with very little hair, but you've grown some curly wisps of light hair.

You have developed a habit of getting angry when you get tired.  It's okay, though.  I understand.

In January (just like your big brother and sister), your first tooth broke through and the second one is right behind it.

You mastered sitting up a few weeks after your first tooth starting coming in.  That means you sat up first (at the youngest age) of all of your siblings.

Rolling over?  Well, you can do it, but you usually don't unless there's a special reason to, like seeing what your siblings are up to.

You are really close to sleeping through the night.  You actually slept all the way through the night for a few nights in a row, but then you got sick.  :(

Mommy loves you, Little Viking.

Dear Mermaid Princess, {6 Months}

Dear Mermaid Princess,

Wow!  A half of a year.  You are growing so fast.  Where has the time gone?  I can't believe you are 6 months old already!

Weight:  20.2 pounds.  Yep, you are a chunk.  The cutest little chunk I have ever seen!

Health:  You are very happy and healthy.  No complaints here.

Sleep:  You're still waking up randomly at around 4am about every 3 or 4 nights, but otherwise you are a great sleeper.  Mommy and Daddy are so blessed.

Social:   You are starting to interact more at daycare.  Your big brother reports that you like to play blocks with him, and Nanny and Love say that you are always happy and cuddly.

Diet:  You are eating food everyday at lunchtime and irregularly for dinner.  I swear it's like trying to feed Fort Knox.  Every bite, you close your mouth or get your tongue in the way.  You like food, but you're just not quite understanding the eating part yet.  Mommy is going to make some big batches of baby food this next week -- carrots, broccoli, spinach...yummy!

Likes:   You love chewing on everything.  I think you're going to be cutting a tooth anytime!  And you are starting to show a preference for Mommy every once in a while, but you love seeing any of your family members -- Daddy, Mommy, Brother, ChooChoo.

Dislikes:  Dropping your toys, being hungry, not being part of the action.

Nicknames: Princess and Peanut (Daddy), Pumpkin (Mommy), Baby Girl (Big brother), Tootsie (ChooChoo)

Milestones:  First Thanksgiving!  It was both your Thanksgiving and our first Thanksgiving away from family.  This year we were blessed to be invited to have Thanksgiving dinner with some friends here in South Carolina.  You were cute and happy the whole time.

Adventures:  Grocery shopping with Mommy and Big Brother is always an adventure.  Your brother loves the carts that look like cars and having steering wheels, but we discovered that your car seat will not fit in the basket of those carts.  And learned it a little too late, so you got to ride like a big kid in the grocery cart for the first time.  You had such a fun time with your brother!

You are also rolling around like a pro.  Whenever you see something across the room that you want, you will just roll yourself around until you get to it.

Love,

Mommy

Dear Mermaid Princess, {Week 24}

Dear Mermaid Princess,

Mommy is finally getting around to your blog updates.  Mommy blogger fail, I know. But it doesn't mean I love you any less.

So, here we go.  Today, you are 24 weeks old.  I can't believe it.  You're growing so fast and it seems like you just arrived.

Weight:  over 17 pounds.  You have the cutest little baby chubs.

Health:  We are all finally over the cold that went around the whole family.

Mermaid Princess relaxing on her handmade quilt
You love your quilt from Gramma Vicki and Aunt Kiley!

Sleep:  You are such a good sleeper, and that makes Mommy SOOOO happy.  Every once in awhile you wake up, but it's rare.  This week you woke up once at 4am, but otherwise, you sleep from about 9-10pm to 7am.

Social:  We really don't know anyone in South Carolina to be social with yet, but you love going to daycare and playing with all of your friends.  They dote on you.

Diet:  You had some runnies with your cold, so you haven't been eating solids for the past week, but you'll start again soon.  You love anything with banana in it just like your brother always did.  And nothing is as good as mommy's milk in a bottle.

Likes:   Bouncing. smiling, trying to sit up, toys!

Dislikes:  Nothing really.  You are truly such a happy little girl.  You cry when you're hungry.  In the past week, you've decided a couple of times that you only want Mommy to hold you though.  And Mommy really does enjoy this little development, except when she's trying to make dinner.

Nicknames: Princess (Daddy), Pumpkin (Mommy), Baby Girl (Big brother)

Milestones:  You're going to reach the sitting up milestone any minute.  You can sit propped up with one hand for about 30 to 60 seconds, and you love it!

Adventures:  We took a family day trip to a mushroom farm.  Yep, a mushroom farm.  It was your Daddy's idea.  You hung out with Mommy in your ring sling the whole time, and you were happy as a clam until you decided to be hungry.  Little Prez and Miss Coco played outside while we went with Daddy on a tour of the mushroom laboratory where they are researching all kinds of cool things that mushrooms can do like create antibodies for infections and eat plastic.

Look at me, Mom!  I can sit up!

Love,

Mommy

Coming June 2015 . . .

The announcement is a little overdue, but now it's official!

We are excited to announce that Baby Girl Harvey will be arriving sometime around June 9th!  Baby Prez is excited to be a big brother, and Miss Coco is thrilled to have a new cousin to play with!
