Baby Prez: 21 Weeks

Dear Baby Prez,

Weight:  about 16-17 pounds, Size 2 diapers

Health:  Happy and healthy!

Sleep:  Mommy and Daddy are still working on sleep training you, and though we are making progress, you have yet to sleep through the night (since Week 16).  Last week, you were sleeping 5 hours on the first stretch, and you have lengthened that to near 6 hours!  So . . . progress.  Now Mommy and Daddy just need to go to sleep when you do and maybe we will be a full night of sleep!

Social:  This week, we mostly hung out and cuddled lots at home, but you did get to see Mommy's colleagues at Happy Hour on Friday, though you slept through part of it!

Diet:  Drinking a bottle every 3 hours or so, plus a meal for brunch and for dinner.  Usually you eat oatmeal mixed with fruit (apples or bananas) for brunch and then veggies for dinner.

Likes:  Talking, your toes, attention, rolling over, and sitting up like a big boy!

Dislikes:  Not getting attention and laying down.

We can't wait to dress you up for Halloween in a few days!  Yay!

Love,

Mommy

Reasons Why I Love My Husband

This post was inspired by a blog post over at {Sara}Under the Sun.  So often we go through the day without really stopping to give our spouses encouragement and gratitude.  It may be enough to simply say, "I love you."  Or maybe you express love through actions and deeds.  But another way to express love, encouragement, and thankfulness is through expressing the reasons why you love your spouse.

One Valentine's Day, I hid notes of reasons why I love my hubby (boyfriend at the time) all around his apartment, but to be honest, I haven't put a lot of effort into reminding him of these reasons.  I'd like to tell him and the whole world why I love him and why I am thankful for him as a husband.

Here are just 5 reasons why I love my husband.

#1.  My husband is one of the most intelligent people I know.  I am constantly awed by his scientific mumbo jumbo.

#2.  My husband is a good Christian man.  He takes his faith and his role as the spiritual head of our family very seriously.

#3. My husband is a hunk.  Yes, he's that handsome.

#4. My husband is funny.  Seriously, he might be able to make it as a comedian.  He makes me laugh every single day...literally.

#5.  My husband is an ambitious DIY-er.  He has done so many projects for our family including refinishing a crib for our son and is always planning new projects to make our life better and easier.

There are so many more reasons why I love and am thankful for my husband, so stay tuned!

Baby Prez: 20 Weeks

Dear Baby Prez,

What a big week for you!  You have reached some awesome milestones!  And Mommy loves all of your funny faces!

Weight:  ~16 pounds

Health:  You are growing and changing, but staying healthy!  Mommy and Daddy think you might be teething because you are getting a bit fussier than usual and you are constantly chewing on your hands, toys, other people's hands...anything you can grab.

Sleep:  Mommy and Daddy are working on training you to sleep through the night, but no luck so far.  You have lengthened your first stretch of the night to about 5 hours.  Then you wake up hungry, eat, and sleep for another 4 hours.  Usually when you wake after the second stretch, you are totally awake and ready for the day.

Social:  Visited Grandma Vicki, Grandpa Tom, and Aunt Kiley's house in Oklahoma for the weekend! They loved having our family around for a few days...mostly they loved getting to cuddle with you!  On the way home from our roadtrip, we stopped to see Daddy's high school friend.  The mommies and daddies ate yummy sushi while you and their baby girl, Mir-mir, played.

Family game night!  Daddy won!

Diet:  This week we added applesauce to your diet.  You weren't sure about it at first, but once it was mixed with a little breastmilk, you decided that it wasn't so bad after all.

Likes:

You have officially mastered rolling from your back to your tummy.  This week, every time I lay you down on your back, you immediately roll over.  Sometimes, I walk out of the room for a minute, and by the time I walk back in, you have rolled all the way across the room!  You are so proud of yourself...

Dislikes:

Until you realize that you are stuck on your tummy.  Even though you know how to roll from your tummy to your back, you apparently forget sometimes.

A bit blurry, but still adorable!

Milestones:

1st Oklahoma State Homecoming

Mommy was SO excited to take you to your first Oklahoma State Homecoming - America's Greatest Homecoming!  Grandma Vicki and Grandpa Tom took Mommy to her first Homecoming when she was just about your age, so it seems appropriate to take you to yours.  On Thursday night, we made the 6 hour drive to Oklahoma, which took a bit longer than usual since we had to stop an extra time or two so you didn't have to be in your carseat the whole time.  You tolerated it pretty well, but you were definitely ready to be done with the car by the time we arrived.

On Friday, we visited Grandma at her new office and had Chick-fil-a for lunch with Grandma and Grandpa in the Student Union.  (It's the largest and most amazing Student Union in the world!)  That evening, we went to the Walkaround, where we looked at all of the incredible house decs, made out of chicken wire and tissue paper.  It was pretty chilly outside, so we buddled you up in your snowsuit and tucked you in the stroller. You fell asleep and slept until we were almost ready to leave, so we got a photo with you and Pistol Pete and headed home to watch Homecoming and Hoops on ESPNU.

House Decs -- Can you believe they are made out of tissue paper and chicken wire?!

All bundled up!

You found your toes!

On Saturday, while we were in Oklahoma, you reached up and found your toes.  You were so fascinated by them!  Ever since then, you grab your toes at every diaper change and sometimes in between.

Worst Moments:  A six hour roadtrip.

Best Moments:  Hanging out with Aunt Kiley, Grandma, and Grandpa!

Love,

Mommy

Favorite Baby Halloween Costumes {Five on Friday}

Halloween Favorites - Part 1

Halloween is without a doubt my second favorite holiday after Christmas.  I admit that it is probably because my favorite color is orange, Oklahoma State's colors are orange and black, and Halloween colors are orange and black.

This week I totally crushing on Halloween costume's for baby!

Confession: I haven't ordered my son's costume yet.  Bad mom, alert!  But there are SO many cute costumes!  Here are my current favorites:

#1 the Tardis from Dr. Who

If we do this, I'd love for hubby to Dr. Who and me to be a companion.  I think I could pull off Amy Pond, right?

#2 Dragon

With Baby Prez as a dragon, I'd be a princess and have hubby be a knight or a prince.

#3 Owl

I just think this costume is adorable.  Almost reminiscent of Harry Potter.

#4 Lobster

Not only is this adorable on its own, but how cute is that baby in the pot?  We also have another idea to make this one extra cute, but it will have to be a surprise if Baby Prez is a lobster!

#5 Dobby the House Elf from Harry Potter

Simple, but completely adorable!

Baby Prez: 19 Weeks

Dear Baby Prez,

Lots of photos this week!

Health:  You passed your 4 month exam with flying colors!
  • Weight:  15 pounds, 6 ounces  ---  53rd percentile
  • Height:  25 1/2 inches  ---  43rd percentile
  • Head Circumference:  17 1/8 inches  ---  90th percentile
You grew so much since your 6 week appointment that the nurse measured you twice just to make sure! You had to get 3 shots and 1 oral vaccine, but you were a brave little man!  Later in the day, you were a bit fussy, but that's to be expected.

Sleep:  We are trying to sleep train you right now.  Each night, we try to keep you awake until about 10pm and then give you a bottle regardless of when you last ate.  You usually sleep from about 10 or 10:30pm to about 3:30 or 4am, which is progress, but not yet sleeping all through the night.  Last night you slept until about 5am, so that was even better!  The goal is to get you to sleep until 6 or 7am.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be tonight!

Check out that adorable bottom lip!

Social:  You liked making faces and smiling at everyone at the pediatrician's office.

We went to Mimi and Grandad's for the weekend, and while Mommy and Daddy had dinner with friends, you and Mimi had lots of fun!

Diet:  For the most part, you drink a 5-6 ounce bottle every 3 hours, but in the past week, you have started grazing.  In other words, you'll drink 2-4 ounces, refuse to drink any more, and then get hungry in an hour or two...and repeat.  Over the weekend, Daddy made some new baby food for you with kale, carrots, and pears.  Super healthy.  And, as usual, you loved it.  In the mornings, you've been eating homemade banana baby food mixed with oatmeal, and in the evenings, you've been eating broccoli, squash, and kale/carrots/pears.

So thoughtful.

Likes:   Jumping!  You just love jumping.  Anytime someone stands you on their lap, you immediately try to start jumping.  It is literally your favorite thing to do.

Looking outside, your walker, toys, Mommy and Daddy, and smiling.

Mommy & Daddy's Like: Halo Sleep Sack.  Now that it's getting cooler (and now that you're kicking your blankets off), we have started putting you in your sleep sack at night.  It's big enough that you can still kick, but not lose your covers.

Storytime.  Mimi found some of Daddy's favorite books from when he was a little boy,
and

So we brought them home and have added them to your bookshelf.  Daddy loves reading them to you, and you love listening to Daddy read!

Dislikes:  Being hungry and laying down.

Milestones:

Put your pacifier in your mouth.  You have been trying to put your pacifier in your mouth for awhile, and this week, you finally accomplished it!  (You haven't done it again since, but you're learning!!)

Trying to feed yourself.  This week you have begun to be interested in feeding yourself.  You try to grab the spoon from Mommy during mealtimes.  Instead, you get your own spoon to hold while you get fed, but if you don't get your bites quick enough, you stick your spoon in your mouth.  It won't be long until you are actually able to feed yourself!

Worst Moments:  3 vaccination shots at the doctors office.  You were such a brave little boy, but Mommy hates to see those long needles poke you and to see your little face scrunch up and to hear you cry in pain.  You calmed down though as soon as Mommy picked you back up and after a little tylenol later, your fussiness calmed as well.

Best Moments:    Cuddling with you and helping you jump (until our arms get tired!)

Love,

Mommy
